ABOUT CAMERON Listen to music while you read! This song is JUSTICE FOR ALL by Jody Cameron from his CD Steelin' Texas... Cameron Cay writes about what she knows. Growing up in a small town on the Texas Gulf coast, she witnessed the bestand the worstthat places like that have to offer. From the trivial to the mind blowing, pleasures and sins take on a different importance when nothing else is going on. Family support came via a set of entrepreneurial parents who ran a series of local businesses, including a real estate firm, a cattle ranch, and a no-tell motel named The Tarpon Inn. Uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandparents stretched across the county and all kept a watchful eye on Cameron and siblings alike. Childhood weekends were spent at the beach having fish fries and chasing crabs. As a teenager, the goals segued into getting in as much trouble as humanly possible without experiencing fatal consequences or, at least, parental knowledge. A brother still lives at the family home. A well known country musician who specializes in the steel guitar, he's raising his children where he once played in the dirt. A sister teaches elementary school down the road, her children and their children, a half day drive away. All accomplished and successful. In the intervening years, Cameron left, first for college and then for opportunity. Since then, spouse and cats included, the author has lived across the globe from the Middle East to South America. Now, decades later, splitting time between Texas and Florida, Cameron knows you can't go home again. Because you never really leave it in the first place. |
